Some shippers get turned off from First Class Package because it’s easier to obtain Priority Mail boxes for free. However, if your items are lightweight and small enough to qualify, First Class Package Service is undoubtedly the way to go. The cheapest rate you’ll ever see for Priority Mail shipping is $7.02 with the dimension-based sub-service Priority Mail Cubic, at Commercial Pricing rates. With First Class Package on the other hand, rates start at just $2.74, and the max they go up to $5.70.

The only thing to keep in mind with First Class Package is that it doesn’t include any USPS insurance, whereas all Priority Mail services come with $100 of insurance when you use shipping software to buy postage online. So, when you use this service, we always recommend that you pay a couple of extra dollars for shipping insurance. Shipping insurance covers you if anything happens to your package, like if it arrives damaged or gets lost during transit.
