The Different Way Cubic Rates for Ground Advantage are Priced

Like USPS Priority Mail Cubic, the price for your shipment depends on your package’s outer dimensions and not its total weight.

Unlike Priority Mail Cubic, however, cubic rates for Ground Advantage service apply to packages that are up to 1 cubic foot in volume (Priority Mail Cubic requires packages to be under 0.5 cubic feet). Since this is the case, there are ten cubic pricing tiers for Ground Advantage. Each pricing tier is in increments of 0.1 cubic feet…and the smaller your box’s volume, the cheaper it will be to ship it!

How Can I Qualify for Cubic Rates for USPS Ground Advantage?

To qualify cubic Ground Advantage rates, your box must meet the following criteria:

  • Total weight can’t exceed 20 pounds
  • No single dimension can exceed 18 inches
  • Maximum cubic volume can’t be more than 1 cubic foot
    • You can calculate your cubic volume with the following equation: (Length x Width x Height / 1728)

Ground Advantage Only Applies to the Lower 48 U.S. States

Since Priority Mail Cubic is an air-based service, one edge it has over Ground Advantage is that it applies to packages traveling to all 50 U.S. states as well as U.S. Territories. Ground Advantage, on the other hand, is restricted to ground transportation (as the name suggests). Therefore, this service only applies to the lower 48 U.S. states. That means that it doesn’t apply to packages traveling to Alaska, Hawaii, or any U.S. Territories. USPS Ground Advantage does, however, apply to shipments going to Military Addresses.
