USPS Announces Star Wars Stamps

Postal Service pays homage to Star Wars' 50-year anniversary; announces new line of Star Wars 'Forever' stamps

A long time ago, in a galaxy not so far away, George Lucas changed the world of cinema with the first installment of the Star Wars franchise, A New Hope. Now, 50 years later, USPS plans to honor the filmmaker’s legacy by releasing twenty brand new Star Wars stamps.

The New Star Wars Stamps Will Feature Beloved Droid Characters from the Franchise

The new stamps will feature beloved droids from the Star Wars universe such as R2-D2, C-3PO, and BB-8. Lesser-known droids from Rogue One like D-O and K-250 will also make appearances. In addition to the droids, the blurred-out backgrounds of the twenty new stamps will pay homage to some of the most famous settings in the franchise’s universe, such as the desert planet Tatooine and the floating Cloud City above the planet Bespin.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like any Jedis will appear on the new line of stamps, as of now…but one never knows what the Postal Service may come up with next!

How Much the Stamps Will Cost, and What They Can Be Used For

Like all stamps, individuals won’t be able to use these new Star Wars stamps for anything other than sending regular letters, postcards, and flat envelopes via First-Class Mail service. The new stamps will cost $0.55 each, or $11.00 for a roll of 20.

Want to adorn your letters with Star Wars stamps? Keep an eye on the USPS website; the Postal Service will release them later this year.
