Eric Chavez is Vice President of Northeast Area Operations for the US Postal Service. He assumed this role in March 2019, and has worked for USPS since 1986.

Duties and Responsibilities

As Vice President of Northeast Area Operations, Chavez reports to David Williams, USPS’ current Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President. In his role, Chavez is responsible for overseeing postal operations such as mail processing, distribution, customer service, and administrative tasks. The Northeast Area includes Main, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, as well as parts of New York and New Jersey. It also includes territories such as the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. All in all, the Northeast Area encompasses over 45 plants, 4,000 delivery and retail units, and nearly 90,000 employees.

Eric Chavez’s Background

Chavez began his career in 1986 as a letter carrier in Jacksonville, FL. Since then, he has gone on to hold lots of positions within the organization. Prior to assuming his current role, Chavez served as Southern Area manager of Operations Support, Gulf Atlantic District Manager, Senior Plant Manager in West Palm Beach, and Postmaster of Chicago. Chavez earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Phoenix. He has also attended the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and Harvard University’s Executive Program for Management Development.
