In 1969, Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillbloom, and Robert Lynn created DHL. They combined the first letters of their last names to create the company name, and the rest is history. When the three men created DHL in 1969, it became the first international door-to-door express delivery service in the world. As a result, they also (unintentionally) invented the international air express industry. In the beginning, the three partners delivered shipping documents by air, so that they arrived at customs offices before the freight, and enabled goods to pass through customs with less delay. The company begins by operating a door-to-door express delivery service, transporting documents only between San Francisco, California and Honolulu, Hawaii.
While you probably don’t see their trucks a lot in the United States, DHL is the world’s premier international shipping carrier. More accurately, they are the go-to carrier when you need fast international shipping. They offer a slew of services for customers who need to get a package or documents to another country quickly. They even have different time-definite services based on different times a parcel will arrive the next possible business day!
- Time-definite and day-definite international delivery services
- Ship a package to another country by 9:00 am, 10:30 am, or 12:00 noon the next possible business day
- Deliver packages or envelopes by the end of the next possible business day with Express Worldwide and Express Envelope, respectively
- DHL Parcel and DHL eCommerce offer domestic and international pick up, delivery and return services for consumers and businesses as well as E-commerce fulfillment center locations.
